Why do some people straight up stink?
I'm a hairstylist. I am up close and personal with people on a daily basis. You may think this rant is about the personal hygiene or lack thereof of society as a whole but it is not. And although I have seen more disgusting things than people have seen in their whole life, I am talking about the real stench... TIGHT WAUDS. Maybe I'm just venting from an extremely sucky day at work because I have been stiffed about 4 times. Let me just teach you a little lesson about when and how much to tip. 1. Restaurants are a place to tip. A good rule of thumb is 20% on the total price of the food (Not taxes). 2. Hairstylists who work for someone else. This is where I have a LOT to say. The 20% rule goes out the window. At my salon we charge $15 for a cut. I get 38% of that which is $5.70 before taxes. If you are whiney and take a half hour of my time and stiff me, that means I have little potential to make much above minimum wage. A good tip is $5 on a $15 cut. Thats 30% which is a good rule to follow. If you make a big stink and ask me to cut 1/4 of the top after I just finished cutting then you should tip more. Let me just say that paying a little more is always better than jipping someone. Believe it or not, it will make you feel better and it will definitely make the stylist feel better.
I don't think that fast food or Cold Stone employees need tips. See what I just said there? Need. They done need them but it never hurts to give. Someone explained it to me like this: if you are paying for a service or food afterwards it's been performed, then you tip. If you pay and then eat, there is no need to tip since you don't know how the service was.
If you don't like the system, too bad. I went to school to do my job and the way I make money is tips. So pay up buttercup. 😘
